A very popular model, the Sea Ray 280 Bowrider was the largest bowrider available from any manufacturer when she was introduced in 1996. Built on a deep-V hull and weighing in at a hefty 6,400 pounds, the 280 has the size and bulk to handle offshore waters in relative comfort. The interior is arranged in the conventional manner with U-shaped lounge/sun pad forward and wraparound lounge seating aft in the cockpit. A wet bar with cooler, glass rack, and trash receptacle is positioned behind the helm, and a lockable head compartment with sink and shower is below the portside helm console. A tilt wheel and flip-up bolster seat are standard at the helm. An electrically operated engine hatch under the U-shaped aft seat lifts to reveal a well-finished engine compartment. Additional features include a fresh water washdown system, large in-floor ski stowage locker, dockside power, and a transom shower. An extended, add-on swim platform was optional. Among several sterndrive power choices offered with the 280 Bowrider, twin 260hp (or 270hp) MerCruisers deliver a top speed of 45–50 knots, while a single 310 MerCruiser I/O will reach the mid 30s top.

Super-popular bowrider with party-time cockpit, generous beam handles big water with ease.

Big U-shaped cockpit seating accommodates a small crowd. Filler cushions turn bow area into padded sundeck. Lockable head compartment with shower is concealed in passenger-side console.

Power rear seat lifts for engine access. One of the largest bowriders of her era.

Twin 260hp MerCruiser I/Os reach 45+ knots top; single MerCruiser 310hp power tops out in the high 30s.
