Introduced in 1994, a favorable exchange rate versus the Australian dollar made the Riviera 39 Convertible an exceptional value in the late 1990s midsize convertible market. Beyond the affordable price, however, the classic styling and solid construction of the Riviera 39 were a match for the best American boats of her day. Like all Rivieras of this era, the 39 is built on a solid fiberglass hull with a collision bulkhead forward and two watertight bulkheads. Large windows and light maple trim make for an open and airy interior with an island master stateroom forward and guest cabin amidships with double and single berth. A large U-shaped dinette to port dominates the salon, and a lower helm (standard) is to starboard, opposite the step-down galley. The cockpit is large for a boat this size and comes with a tackle center, sink, transom door, and direct access to the large engine room. Topside, the bridge area is designed to seat six comfortably. Among several engine options, 350hp Cat diesels cruise in the low 20s, and 435hp Cat diesels (or 420hp Cummins) diesels cruise at 24–25 knots (30+ top).
