Small flybridge convertibles are rare in today’s market—most manufacturers find it far more profitable to concentrate their efforts on larger, more expensive models. The Aussie-built Riviera 33, however, offered buyers the opportunity to purchase a smartly styled pocket convertible able to hold her own with boats costing many thousands more. Built on a solid fiberglass hull with prop pockets and underwater exhausts, the Riviera’s forward collision bulkhead and watertight compartments offer a level of security seldom found in a boat of this type. Her single-stateroom interior was offered with or without a lower helm. While the salon dimensions are modest, a U-shaped settee doubles as a dinette and wraparound windows admit tons of natural lighting. Engine room access is via a hatch in the salon’s teak and holly sole or directly from the cockpit. The 33’s well-lit cockpit has a tackle station with a freshwater sink to starboard, bait freezer cabinet to port, two in-deck fish boxes, and transom livewell. Topside, the bridge area accommodates five in comfort. Note the raw water washdown in the anchor locker. Volvo 310hp diesels cruise at 22–24 knots (high 20s top).
