The Rinker 280 Express Cruiser (called the 290 Express Cruiser since 2012) combines a low, entry-level price with the fuel-efficiency that comes with single-engine power. For decades, Rinker has built their name on delivering affordable, well-equipped boats—the intersection between price and value. Built on a solid fiberglass modified-V hull with tall freeboard and a slender 9'1"" beam, the user-friendly cockpit of the 280 Express consists of wraparound rear seating, a refreshment center with sink and storage, portside lounger, and a double helm seat with flip-up bolster. Note the aft facing “rumble seat” built into the transom—nice touch. Lacking side decks, a walk-through windshield provides access to the bow. Below decks, the cozy midcabin interior of the Rinker 280 might best be described as no frills and basic. Where some 28-footers with greater beam might sleep six, the 280 sleeps four. There’s more galley storage than some boats her size, however, and mid cabin double berth has its own flat screen TV/DVD. A single 375hp MerCruiser I/O will cruise at 24–25 knots (mid 30s top).
