Not a notably popular boat (only a few were sold), the styling of the Rampage 40 is unusual in that she features a rather unattractive trunk cabin foredeck rather than the conventional flush foredeck seen in most convertibles this size. Like all Rampage products, the 40 was constructed on a fully cored hull with a wide beam and moderate deadrise at the transom. A unique underwater exhaust system is located midships, just below the salon. The roomy two-stateroom interior is arranged with the galley aft in the salon (unusual in a fishing boat). A cavernous rod locker is built into the salon overhead, and the cherry woodwork is impressive. Topside, the wraparound helm console has two large electronics lockers properly angled for easy viewing. A transom door, circulating livewell, bait prep station, and two fish boxes were all standard. Topside, the large flybridge is arranged with guest seating forward of the helm console. A well-built boat showing exceptional workmanship, 485hp 6-71s cruise the Rampage 40 around 23–24 knots. The bigger 550hp 6V92 diesels cruise at 26 knots and reach 30 knots top. Note that she was called the Rampage 42 Sportfisherman in 1990.
