A sturdy, well-constructed boat, the Phoenix 34 Tournament (called the 33 Tournament in 1990–94) is a balanced blend of conservative styling, quality construction, a roomy cockpit, and good open-water performance. The hull—strengthened with a full-length inner liner—is essentially a deep-V with propeller pockets to allow the engines to be moved aft without increasing the shaft angle. The single-level cockpit of the Phoenix 34 is arranged with a dinette/lounge opposite the helm, a neat aft-facing bait station, and lockable rod storage. The engine boxes are useful as bait-watching seats, and the aft cockpit offers a full 144 square feet of fishing platform. (Note that a reinforcing plate is provided in the cockpit sole for the installation of a mounted chair.) Below, you’ll find a compact cabin with 6 feet of headroom, a galley with refrigerator, and a standup head with shower. A transom door, in-deck fish box, and bow pulpit were standard. While gas engines were standard, most anglers preferred one of the several diesel options available. Among them, Cat 375hp diesels cruise in the mid 20s (about 30 knots top). Later models with 420hp Cats cruise at 28 knots (30+ top).
