Ocean Yachts has never been shy over the years when it comes to introducing innovative design concepts in their Super Sport convertibles. In the 40 SS introduced in 1997, designer David Martin created yet another high-performance sportfisherman with a unique two-stateroom, galley-up interior that will almost certainly catch most observers by surprise. Located forward in the salon, a step up from the floor is a four-person dinette—an unusual feature in a 40-foot convertible. While this layout is unusual to be sure and may not appeal to everyone (since it moves the companionway well off to port), the upside is the huge amidships stateroom beneath this dinette with its surprising 7-foot headroom. Like all Ocean Yachts, the teak interior is tastefully decorated and well finished throughout. On deck, the cockpit comes standard with a molded tackle center, saltwater washdown, and transom door. (Note the athwartships flybridge ladder.) Additional features include cockpit engine room access, an integral bow pulpit, and a well-arranged helm console. Built on a low-deadrise hull with moderate beam, twin 420hp Cat (or 440hp Yanmar) diesels cruise at 24 knots and reach a top speed of 30+ knots.
