The Ocean Alexander 51/53 is a traditional raised pilothouse motor yacht whose attractive lines and comfortable interior made her a relatively popular model during her production years. Offered in two versions, the 51 Sedan (pictured above) has a conventional squared-off transom, while the 53 model introduced in 1991 has a Euro-style reverse transom that ads an extra two feet to her overall length. Instead of locating the galley on the salon level—the traditional layout in pilothouse floorplans—the 51/53 has the galley to port on the pilothouse level in the European fashion. The result is a huge salon with extravagant entertaining capabilities. The master stateroom is forward in this layout, and both guest cabins are located beneath the pilothouse sole. Additional features include a large cockpit with a transom door, wide side decks, a foredeck sun pad, radar arch, and a spacious flybridge with plenty of guest seating. Early models with 400hp 6V53s cruise the Alexander 51 Sedan at 16 knots (just under 20 knots top). Later models with 550hp 6V92 diesels cruise at 20 knots, and optional 735hp 8V92s cruise in the mid 20s (26–27 knots top).
