The 50 Pilothouse MK II replaced the original 50 Pilothouse model in the Ocean Alexander lineup in 1985. She has a more modern appearance than her heavily built predecessor with sleeker lines and a less trawler-like profile. The MK II was built in Taiwan on a semi-displacement hull with cored hullsides, moderate beam, and a long keel for directional stability. Below deck, the 50 MK II was offered with a pair of three-stateroom interior layouts. The standard configuration has pilothouse access to the lower level, while in the alternate floorplan the staterooms can be reached from either the salon or the pilothouse. Either way, a large U-shaped galley is forward in the salon, and the pilothouse is fitted with a built-in settee and port and starboard deck doors. Typical of all Ocean Alexander yachts, the interior teak joinery is of furniture quality. The cockpit of the MK II has a transom door, a storage locker, and direct engine room access. Topside, there’s room on the flybridge for a dinghy. A good performer with optional 375hp Cat (or 400hp 6V53) diesels, the Alexander 50 MK II will cruise at 15–16 knots and reach close to 20 knots top.
