Given the popularity of cockpit motor yachts, it was hardly surprising that the 48 Yachtsman met with an appreciative audience when she was introduced by Ocean Alexander in 1985. An attractively styled yacht, she was built on a good-riding modified-V hull with a relatively wide beam, cored hullsides, and a shallow keel for directional stability. The galley-down interior includes two roomy staterooms, each with a walkaround queen bed and plenty of storage. A serving counter separates the galley from the salon, and a deck access door is located abaft the standard lower helm. As it is in most Asian-built yachts, the interior is a superb display of expert teak joinery. Topside, a large cockpit (with transom door) and covered aft deck provide ample room for cruising and all-weather entertaining. The helm is forward on the flybridge with built-in lounge seating aft, and wide side decks provide safe access to the foredeck. A radar arch and swim platform were standard. No longer in production, twin 320hp Cummins VT555 diesels were a popular option in the 48 Yachtsman. Cruising speeds are in the range if 14–16 knots.
