The first thing one notices about the Canadian-built Neptunus 56 is the unusual styling; this is definitely not your typical motor yacht design. Pictured here with the optional hardtop, it’s difficult to escape the opinion that the 56 is a bit overstyled. She’s built on a deep-V hull with moderate beam, prop pockets, and a solid fiberglass bottom. The floorplan differs from most European designs in that the staterooms on the lower level are accessed from a staircase across from the galley rather than a passageway further forward, adjacent to the lower helm. This allows for a huge dinette opposite the helm, much larger than the dinettes found in other pilothouse motor yachts this size that are often very small. With the U-shaped galley open to the salon and dinette, the Neptunus has a very social main deck layout, richly accented with high-gloss cherry joinery and furnished with many luxury amenities. The cockpit—mostly shaded by a bridge overhang—is very spacious with a transom lounge and engine room access hatch. The side decks, however, are narrow. A bow thruster and washer/dryer were standard. A good performer, 800hp Cats cruise the Neptunus in the mid 20s and reach a top speed of 27–28 knots.
