The Mikelson 42 is the boat that put Mikelson in the sportfish business back in 1986. Designed by Tom Fexas, she’s a notably handsome flybridge sedan whose profile is accented by a long foredeck and large cabin windows. She rides on a fully cored hull with rounded chines and a shallow keel—a hull specifically designed for maximum fuel efficiency in the 20-knot range. While several floorplans were offered during her production years, most Mikelson 42s were delivered with a two-stateroom galley-up layout with a single head. A lower helm was standard, and the interior is completely finished with handcrafted teak cabinetry. The cockpit, partially shaded by a bridge overhang, is large enough for two or three anglers to work without being crowded. For a 42-footer, the Mikelson’s flybridge is very large. Additional features include a radar arch, wide side decks, transom door, teak cockpit sole, and teak-and-holly floors throughout the interior. Among several engine options, twin 260hp GM 8.2L diesels cruise the Mikelson 42 at 16–18 knots and achieve a top speed of around 20 knots. This boat was also marketed in the U.S. as the Ultimate 42 as well as the Fexas 42.
