A good-selling model, this widebody express (called the 2800 SCR in 1997–2000; 2900 SCR in 2001–02; 2900 SE in 2003–06) was among the more the more affordable midsize cruisers available during her production years. Hull construction is solid fiberglass, and her deep-V hull delivers a stable and comfortable ride in spite of her high freeboard. The 2800/2900 is a surprisingly big boat on the inside because her full-width cabin eliminates the side decks in order to take maximum advantage of the beam. The floorplan is arranged in the usual way with double berths fore and aft, a convertible dinette, compact galley, and an enclosed head with standing headroom. Privacy curtains separate the sleeping areas from the main cabin. There’s seating for six in the cockpit with facing settees aft and a double-wide seat at the helm. Note that her modest 102-gallon fuel capacity limits the cruising range. Twin hatches in the cockpit sole provide good access to the engine(s). A single 260hp MerCruiser sterndrive will top out in the mid-to-high 20s. Later models with a 320hp MerCruiser I/O will hit a top speed of 30+ knots, and twin 220hp MerCruisers cruise at 22 knots (mid 30s top).
