A sellout boat in her first two years of production (over 80 were eventually built), the Marquis 65 Pilothouse became the Marquis 690 in 2009 when Carver emerged from bankruptcy as Marquis Yachts. There were many Italian-styled motoryachts on the market when the 65 first appeared in 2005, but few matched the Marquis’ sleek lines and undeniable sex appeal. Looking from the stern, the main deck’s visual scope reaches all the way forward, through the salon, dining room, galley, and pilothouse to the seascape ahead. With large windows along each side, the effect is airy and expansive. A formal dining area forward of the salon holds an oval table for six while the home-size galley to port features such luxuries as granite counters and floors. A lower helm was optional. There are three staterooms and heads below, including an opulent amidships master with king-size berth, walk-in closet, and his-and-hers heads. Aft, two-person crew quarters are accessed from the transom. Additional features include a hydraulic swim platform, bow/stern thrusters, and—unlike most European motoryachts—a spacious engine room with standing headroom. MTU 1,500hp V-drive diesels cruise at 24–26 knots (30+ top).
