Classic trawler styling, a large cockpit, and an affordable price were the principal characteristics of the Marine Trader 38 Sedan, an economy-class Asian import for buyers not overly concerned with quality or finish. Like most Marine Trader models of her era, the 38 was built on a solid fiberglass, semi-displacement hull with generous beam, a well-flared bow, and a long, prop-protecting keel. Her standard two-stateroom interior is arranged with the galley in the salon, opposite the lower helm. (Note that the refrigerator is not in the galley but behind the helm where it’s accessible to everyone in the salon.) Instead of a V-berth forward, the owner’s stateroom has a walkaround island berth with a hanging locker and vanity. The guest cabin is fitted with upper and lower berths, and a tub/shower is located in the head. Wide side decks and high railings make getting around the deck easy and safe. Bridge overhangs shelter the side decks and cockpit, and the flybridge is large enough to store a dinghy. Twin Lehman 135hp diesels cruise at 8–10 knots. Note that the Marine Trader 42 Sedan is the same boat with an extended cockpit.
