In one form or another, the Marine Trader 34 Sedan has been a fixture in the marine marketplace since 1973. Inexpensive to buy and economical to operate, the 34 is the quintessential cheap Taiwan trawler. Built on a beamy hull of solid fiberglass construction, the superstructure is fiberglass as well, although for the first few years it was glass-over-plywood construction, which caused a lot of dry rot problems. The 34 Sedan has been updated several times over the years, most notably in 1991 when the flybridge was restyled and the interior revised, and in 1995 when the teak decks and window frames were eliminated. Despite the modifications, she still retains the classic trawler design elements including full walkaround decks, a salty profile, a full teak interior, and an extended flybridge whose supporting stanchions give the boat a true motoryacht appearance. A teak bow pulpit, swim platform, and a mast and boom assembly are standard. Most 34 Sedans are powered with a single 135hp Lehman diesel (120hp in older models) which cruise efficiently at 7 knots burning 23 gph. An optional 210hp Cummins can deliver up to 12 knots top. The cruising range of this boat can exceed 750 miles.
