A popular boat for Mako (and the largest boat in the Mako fleet for several years), the 286 Inboard is a sturdy dual console fisherman with a practical deck layout and good overall performance. She’s built on a solid fiberglass semi-V hull with a wide 9'10"", a full transom, and positive foam floatation. (Note that unlike most larger Mako models, the 286 does not ride on a deep-V hull.) The single-level cockpit is large enough to handle a full-size fighting chair, and there’s a large fish box built into the cockpit sole near the transom. The portside console includes a sink with storage below, and there’s built-in bench seating forward of the helm. Below deck, the lockable cuddy cabin contains adult-size V-berths, storage lockers, and a plumbed marine head. Additional features include teak covering boards, under-gunwale rod storage, companion seat, hydraulic steering, trim tabs, and a circulating livewell. An aluminum hardtop and bow pulpit were popular options. Among several gas and diesel power options offered over the years, twin 260hp MerCruisers cruise the Mako 286 in the low 20s and reach a top speed in the neighborhood of 30 knots.
