Marketed as a “fast” trawler, the Mainship 430 is a trunk cabin cruising yacht with traditional trawler styling and a good turn of speed. She’s built on a solid fiberglass semi-displacement hull, and a wide 15'6"" beam makes the 430 a big boat inside with lots of storage space. Mainship offered several floorplans for this boat with a choice of two or three staterooms. The galley-down layout (with two staterooms) boasts a very spacious salon with convertible sofa, four-person dining table, and port and starboard deck doors. A breakfast bar with two stools overlooks the galley, and the forward stateroom has an island berth or V-berths. The owner’s stateroom has a cockpit access door—a useful feature. With the equally popular three-stateroom layout, the galley is forward to port in the salon and the second guest stateroom extends aft under the galley sole. All 430 interiors feature teak cabinets and teak and holly flooring in the salon and galley. Lower helm ergonomics, however, are poor. Note the washer/dryer space under the forward salon steps. Walkaround decks make getting around easy and secure. Among several engine choices, Cummins 370hp diesels cruise the Mainship 430 at 14–16 knots.
