Anglers looking for a stylish, moderately priced express fisherman with a versatile layout found much to like in the Luhrs 36 Open (called the 36 SX in 1997–2001). Constructed on a deep-V hull with cored hullsides and well-flared bow, the deep cockpit of the Luhrs 36 is large enough for a full-size fighting chair and came with a transom fish box, cockpit rod storage, transom door, and a split tackle center with sink forward. The helm deck, a few steps up from the cockpit sole, can be raised hydraulically for full access to the engines. The spacious interior of the 36 Open—with its teak woodwork, separate stall shower, full-service galley, and berths for four—is attractively finished and easily suited for family cruising. Additional features include a molded bow pulpit, double-wide helm and companion seats, wide side decks, and a well-arranged helm console. Among many gas and diesel engine options, twin 420hp gas engines cruise in the low 20s, and optional 420hp Cat diesels cruise at 26–27 knots. Note that the first few of these boats (built in 1997) came with a center-console helm and standard radar arch.
