A scaled-down version of the Legacy 40, the Legacy 34 is a Down East-style cruiser from Freedom Yachts, builder of Freedom sailboats. Her designer, Mark Ellis, has drawn many of the best Down East yachts over the years. The Legacy is built on a fully cored hull with moderate beam, a sharp entry, and—in the single-screw version—a keel of sufficient depth to offer prop and rudder protection. The interior of the Legacy 34 will easily suit the needs of the cruising couple, and the above average fit and finish is an indication of how well this boat is put together. Extra-large cabin windows provide all-around visibility, and the varnished mahogany woodwork and teak-and-holly sole add much to the traditional feel of the boat. Notable features include a deck door at the helm, wide side decks, a separate stall shower in the head, and a gas-assist engine room hatch. With a single 440hp Cummins diesel the Legacy will cruise at a comfortable 16–18 knots (20-plus knots top) with a fuel burn of better than 1 nautical mile per gallon. Twin-diesel options ranging from 315 to 440hp will cruise in the mid to high 20s.
