Lagoon, a company best known for its line of sailing catamarans, was once a division of French sailboat manufacturer Beneteau Yachts. The Lagoon 43 was the companys first powerboat design, a very distinctive cruising yacht with wraparound cabin windows and a mega-wide 21'3"" beam. She rides on a pair of semi-displacement hulls with balsa coring above the waterline and prop-protecting keels. The Lagoons aft-cabin layout is uniqueno other power cat available in the U.S. market to date offers anything similar it. Two floorplans were available: a three-stateroom arrangement with guest cabins forward in each hull, and a two-stateroom layout with a den/office in the starboard hull. The salon isnt as spacious as one might imagine (the aft stateroom takes up a lot of space), but the panoramic view is impressive and helm visibility is excellent. Molded steps lead from the covered cockpit to the small flybridge, and a U-shaped foredeck lounge is a great place to enjoy the view. On the downside, headroom in the master stateroom is modest, and finding a marina to accommodate the Lagoons enormous beam will be a challenge. Yanmar 250hp diesels cruise at 1618 knots with a 400-mile-plus range.
