Trawler purists will find much to like in the Krogen 48 North Sea, a sturdy raised pilothouse trawler with a ballasted, full-displacement hull and the long-range capability required of a true oceangoing vessel. Built in Taiwan, the 48 is a semi-custom yacht in that she’s offered with a choice of several two- and three-stateroom interiors. The standard model comes with full walkaround side decks, while the Widebody version eliminates the port side deck. In either version, the galley is forward in the salon, and the teak-trimmed pilothouse is arranged with a centerline helm, dual deck doors, and an L-shaped settee that converts to a berth. (Note that the walkaround layout does not allow room for stairs from the pilothouse to the bridge.) An elegant parquet sole graces the salon where facing settees provide comfortable seating for several guests. Topside, the cockpit and side decks are shaded by bridge overhangs, and the extended flybridge will accommodate an inflatable tender. Additional features include a full teak interior, fold-down mast and boom, and a large engine room accessed from the galley. At an 8-knot cruising speed, the single 210hp Cat diesel provides a range of nearly 2,000 nautical miles. Over 50 were built.
