Hydra-Sports got it right with the Vector 2900 VX (called the Vector 3000 Express in 2011–12), a top-tier cruiser with the speed and range to reach distant fishing spots in comfort and security. Like all late-model Hydra-Sports boats, the 2900 VX rides on a solid fiberglass (and Kevlar-reinforced) hull with moderate beam and a fully integrated transom. More fishboat than cruiser, the roomy cockpit includes a foldaway rear seat, 35-gallon livewell, insulated fish boxes, bait prep station, and padded bolsters. The portside lounge seat on the bridge deck converts to sun pad, and there’s space at the helm for flush-mounting two (small) video displays. Note the tackle box under the helm seat. Below deck, the well-finished interior of the 2900 VX includes a compact galley with microwave and refrigerator, enclosed head with sink and hand-held shower, and a convertible dinette forward with flip-up backrests—berths for six in a 29-foot boat! The teak-and-holly cabin sole is a nice touch, and so are the pop-up deck cleats. A walk-through windshield provides secure foredeck access. Twin Yamaha 250s reach 45+ knots top.
