The Hatteras 54 Convertible replaced the popular 55 Convertible in the Hatteras fleet in 1991. A distinctive boat with the aggressive profile common to all Hatteras convertibles of her era, the 54 is heavily built on a modified-V hull with a wide 17'4"" beam and a relatively deep keel. Her three-stateroom interior features a diagonal galley forward to port in the salon with a built-in dinette opposite, an innovative layout that opens up the salon and adds considerable living and entertaining space. Forward and down four steps are three staterooms arranged off a central passageway. The master stateroom is to port with a walkaround queen berth and private head with shower. Across from the master is a guest stateroom with upper/lower berths and entrance to the day head with stall shower. Forward is the bow stateroom with queen berth or upper/lower bunks. A washer/dryer located in the companionway hall adjacent to the guest stateroom. Additional features include oak interior joiner work, walk-in engine room, and 150 square-foot cockpit with bait freezer and tackle center. Detroit 1,080hp diesels (or 1,200hp MANs) cruise at 25 knots (28–29 knots top). Later models with 1,250hp 3412 Cats cruise at 28 knots (low 30s top).

Introduced in 2002, the Hatteras 54 was a dramatic departure from earlier Hatteras convertible designs. Aside from her sleek “new-look” styling, the 54 was the first Hatteras convertible to ride on the company’s then-new convex hull form with cored hullsides, shallow keel, and propeller pockets to reduce shaft angles. Below deck, the tasteful interior reflects the practical layout and meticulous finish common to all late-model Hatteras yachts. Three staterooms are situated on the lower level (V-berths are optional in the bow stateroom), and Hatteras made maximum use of space by extending both the master and second guest stateroom under the salon floor. Each room has its own climate control and entertainment center, and the master stateroom includes a 15-inch flat-screen TV. With nearly 150 square feet of space, the cockpit is up to the demands of any hardcore angler. Topside, the flybridge is designed with a pair of Murray chairs and an optional electronically operated console. A fast ride, the Hatteras 54 will cruise at 30 knots with 1,400hp Caterpillar engines (mid 30s top). With 1,550hp Cats, she’ll reach a top speed of close to 40 knots.
