In spite of her modern styling and distinctive reverse transom—or “activity platform” as the brochure described it—the Hatteras 50 Sport Deck enjoyed only moderate sales success during the three years she was in production. (The reasons for this had much to do with the influx of cheaper Asian-built motoryachts and faster, more stylish European imports that came to dominate the U.S. market during this period.) The 50 Sport Deck is built on a modified-V hull with an unusually deep keel, cored hullsides, and a solid fiberglass bottom. A pair of galley-down interiors were available, both with two full heads and queen beds in the master and forward staterooms. The standard two-stateroom layout includes a booth dinette opposite the galley. The alternate layout moved the dinette up into the salon to make way for a small third stateroom to port, opposite the galley. The large salon has a U-shaped sofa to port and entertainment center opposite. Note the walk-in closet in the master stateroom. The aft deck dimensions are impressive for a yacht this size. A curved staircase leads from the aft deck down to the swim platform. Detroit 565hp 6V92TA diesels cruise at 17–18 knots (low 20s top).
