A popular model, the Hatteras 48 Convertible is a stylish tournament sportfishing boats from the late 1980s. This was a period when Hatteras was one of the dominant names in the convertible market—a brand closely identified with quality construction and world-class engineering. Heavily built on a low-deadrise hull with Divinycell coring above the waterline, the Hatteras 48’s two-stateroom teak interior features a mid-level galley and two heads with separate stall showers. The master stateroom with tapered queen berth, built-in dressers and private head with shower is forward, and the guest stateroom with over/under bunks and access to the day head is to starboard. A breakfast bar with two stools overlooks the galley which is two steps down from the salon level. Unlike many convertibles her size, the Hatteras 48 lacks a dinette. The large fishing cockpit came standard with a transom door, tackle center with sink, livewell, and an engine room access door. Note the under-coaming air intakes. The flybridge has three helm chairs with guest seating forward of the console. Standard 720hp 8V92 diesels cruise the Hatteras 48 at 22–23 knots (mid-to-high 20s top).
