Introduced in 1987, the Gulfstar 63 Cockpit MY is a cockpit version of the innovative Gulfstar 55. The floorplans of both boats are the same, however the extra length of the 63 added a knot or so to her performance as well as smoothing out her lines a little. (Indeed, the 63 really is a better-looking boat that the ungainly Gulfstar 55.) Too, the 63 carries additional fuel for greater range, and the cockpit adds serious resale value since cockpit boats are so popular these days. The four-stateroom interior of the Gulfstar 63 includes three heads on the lower level and a formal dining area above, aft of the galley and separated from the salon by a glass partition. Stairwells in the salon lead down to the master stateroom as well as up to the flybridge, and a small aft deck at the stern is suitable for line handling. Visibility from the enclosed pilothouse is excellent. Additional features include handcrafted teak interior joinery, a huge flybridge, full walkaround decks, and a laundry center. A good performer with 735hp GM 8V-92 diesels, she’ll cruise at 19–20 knots (22+ knots wide open). Viking purchased Gulfstar in late 1987 and the 63 continued in production as the Viking 63 Cockpit MY.
