The 43 Eastbay SX and HX models began life in 2000 when Grand Banks introduced the 43 Eastbay EX, a distinctive Downeast cruising yacht with an open cockpit and helm. Two years later came a hardtop version, the 43 HX, with a semi-enclosed helm deck open to the cockpit, and in 2004 came the 43 SX (pictured here) with a fully enclosed pilothouse/salon. More than just a pretty face, the traditional appearance and meticulous finish of the 43 Eastbay make her standout yacht in any harbor. She’s built on a modified deep vee hull that delivers fast cruising combined with exceptional comfort. An ideal distribution of space offers a generous cockpit, spacious helm deck, large salon and galley below with two staterooms and a roomy head with separate stall shower. (A rare single cabin version offers a larger owner’s stateroom and extra storage.) Like all Eastbay models, the handcrafted teak interior joinery is second to none. Beginning with 2006 models, the salon/helm area is open to the lower deck—no cabin hatch. Teak decks and a teak cockpit sole are standard. An enduring classic, over 100 of these yachts were built. Cat 435hp (or Yanmar 440hp) diesels cruise at 24–25 knots (high 20s top).
