It wasn’t all that many ago that the concept of an outboard-powered 33-footer wasn’t on the table. That changed with the advent of more powerful (and heavier) four-stroke engines from Mercury and Yamaha. Nearly overnight, the market for big outboard center consoles (and express fishermen) exploded to the point where buyers today have many models to choose from. Leading the pack is the Grady-White 336 Canyon, a muscular fishing machine whose huge 80-square-foot cockpit and leading edge features set the standards for a boat of this type. Designed to range far offshore and stay there until the day is done, key features of the Canyon Runner include a fiberglass T-top, 45-gallon livewell aft of the companion seat, bait rigging station, foldaway rear seat, large-capacity transom fish box, and two forward fish/storage boxes. The centerline helm console (with pop-up electronics module) accommodates two big-screen video displays. Below, the roomy walk-in console compartment sports a full marine head with sink and shower, vertical rod storage, and twin berths forward. High 30s top with Yamaha F250s; 40+ knots wide open with Yamaha F350s.
