Introduced in 1988, the 285 Vista was aimed at existing Four Winns owners who were looking to move up from their trailerable models into a full-size midcabin cruiser. Construction is solid fiberglass from the rail down, and the tri-tone hull graphics are typical of Four Winns boats back in the 1980s and early 1990s. The Vista’s relatively wide beam results in a spacious and wide-open interior for a 28-footer with berths for six. While the galley area is limited, the headroom is very good (6 feet, 3 inches at the entry), and there’s plenty of storage space under the berths and settees. Topside, the cockpit is arranged with an L-shaped lounge to port (that pivots fore and aft) and bench seating aft. Note the distinctive circular foredeck hatches. Standard 200hp OMC sterndrives cruise the 285 Vista at 22–23 knots (30+ knots top). In 1990, Four Winns introduced the 285 SE model, a less expensive single-engine version with a slightly revised interior layout. Among several single- and twin-screw power choices, a single 340hp 7.4L sterndrive engine will cruise at 19–20 knots (about 30 knots top), and twin 260hp sterndrive engines will run a few knots faster.
