Aside from her distinctive reverse arch, the most striking feature of the Formula 31 SC is her wide beamwider in fact than just about any other family cruiser her size in the early 1980s. Built on a solid fiberglass deep-V hull, the 31 SCs trunk cabin appearance is clearly dated (modern express designs incorporate a much sleeker foredeck profile). The floorplannote that this is not a midcabin layoutis arranged with a double berth in the forward stateroom (which has a folding privacy door), convertible dinette to port, and a settee opposite. While this configuration offers plenty of salon seating, it results in a rather small galley and head compartment. Topside, the spacious single-level cockpit is arranged with double-wide helm and companion seats and removable bench seating aft. Note that the large cockpit of the 31 SC lends itself very well to fishing although theres no transom door. Additional features include wide side decks, teak swim platform, and teak covering boards. A good-handling boat thanks to her deep-V hull, optional 350hp inboards cruise the Formula 31 SC at 1819 knots and about 27 knots top. Note that a full sportfishing version was also available.
