It’s all about fun with the Formula 280 Bowrider, a well-built boat big enough for the ocean but small enough to trailer to local lakes and rivers. (Note, however, that because of her wide 9-foot, 2-inch beam, a permit is required for trailering.) Built on a deep-V hull, the 280 is distinguished for her attractive styling, roominess, and easy handling. She’s not the least expensive big bowrider on the market, but the quality is there, and it’s no secret that Formulas are built to last. Seating includes a flip-up double helm seat, double companion lounge, and a big U-shaped settee in the cockpit that converts to a sun lounge. Storage for fenders or dive tanks is located under the passenger seat, and a deluxe cockpit galley with sink and storage is standard. The 280’s tiered helm position, with its Dino wheel and Kiekhaefer controls, is almost ideal, while the enclosed head includes a sink and opening port. Forward, filler cushions can turn the deep bow section into a huge sun pad. Additional features include a power engine hatch lift, stainless steel props, transom storage locker, and an extended swim platform. Offered with single or twin I/Os, twin 260hp MerCruisers deliver a top speed in the neighborhood of 45 knots.

Versatile family cruiser with wide 9'2"" beam is small enough for exploring lakes and rivers, big enough to handle an offshore chop.

Well-appointed cockpit with wraparound seating, double (flip-up) helm seat, deluxe galley can accommodate a small crowd. Filler cushions turn bow seats into huge sun pad. Enclosed head compartment is among the largest in her class. Excellent helm layout with tiered dash, tilt wheel.

Power engine hatch is a useful touch.

Twin 260hp MerCruiser sterndrives top out at close to 45 knots.
