A striking yacht, the Fairline 48 Targa is a purebred Mediterranean sportcruiser whose sleek profile (dominated by a fiberglass-framed elliptical windshield) compares well with anything Sea Ray or Sunseeker has produced to date. She’s built on a deep-V hull with shallow prop pockets to reduce draft, and her narrow, easily driven hull goes a long way toward explaining her good performance with relatively modest power. Fitting three staterooms in the Targa 48 was a challenge solved by placing side-by-side guest cabins below the helm deck, each with twin single berths. While the salon is very spacious and expertly finished, the ensuite head attached to the forward stateroom is very small and the doors to the aft cabins are narrow. On deck, the cockpit is divided into three areas: The command bridge at the front, settee and wet bar in the middle, and a centerline garage for a tender aft with a hydraulically activated door. A teak cockpit sole is standard and the side decks are wide and safe. Considered a benchmark boat in the eyes of many aficionados, twin 430hp Cats—shoehorned into a tight engine room—will cruise the 48 Targa in the mid 20s and reach a top speed of 30+ knots.
