Located in Southwest Harbor, ME, the Ellis Boat Company is a small family owned builder of custom and semi-custom Downeast designs whose products have earned a loyal following with many boating enthusiasts. Among several Ellis models currently available, the 28 Bass Boat—the most popular of four 28-foot designs Ellis offers on this sturdy hull—is a timeless Down East cruiser with the beautiful lines and superb seakeeping characteristics that have made traditional Down East boats so popular over the years. Built on a solid fiberglass hull with moderate beam and a full-length keel, the hand-crafted cabin of the 28 Bass Boat, while compact in size, provides comfortable weekend accommodations for two with a small galley, standup head with shower, four opening ports, V-berths and adequate storage. Visibility from the helm is excellent and the cockpit is large enough for some serious fishing. Additional features include suitably wide side decks, prominent bow rail, and a teak bow pulpit. A traditional and seaworthy boat built to high standards, a single 170hp Yanmar diesel will cruise the Ellis 28 at 13–14 knots.
