The Egg Harbor 43 Sport Fisherman remains one of the more handsome boats in her size class despite the fact that she’s been out of production for well over a decade. (Indeed, her balanced lines and muscular profile represent classic convertible styling at its best.) The 43 was built on a stretched version of the Egg Harbor 41 Convertible hull with an additional 100 gallons of fuel for increased range. (Note that the extra two feet of length were used to enlarge the 43’s salon dimensions; the cockpit dimensions of both boats are essentially the same.) Several two-stateroom floorplans were offered, and all featured a single head and a mid-level galley. The teak joinery and paneling used throughout is impressive and very well crafted. Taken together, the upscale decor and roomy accommodations make the Egg 43 a comfortable boat for family cruising. Like many 1980s sportfishermen, the front windshield area was glassed over and painted to create a distinctive wraparound black “mask” surrounding the deckhouse. A pair of 375hp Cats cruise the Egg Harbor 43 in the low 20s, and 485hp Detroits cruise in the mid 20s and reach 27–28 knots top.
