The Egg Harbor 42 Convertible combines the graceful lines, comfortable accommodations, and spirited performance common to all Egg Harbor boats in the 1990s. She was built on the same modified-V hull used for her sistership, the Egg Harbor 38 Convertible (1990–94), with cored hullsides, a well-flared bow, and a relatively flat 8 degrees of transom deadrise. The two-stateroom, mid-galley floorplans offered in the Egg Harbor 42—and there were several—all featured an abundance of varnished teak woodwork, quality appliances, and plush (at least by 1990s standards) decorator fabrics. With just over 100 square feet of space, the cockpit can easily handle a fighting chair, and came standard with a molded tackle center, in-deck fish box, livewell, and transom door. Note that the exterior teak trim and covering boards were eliminated in 1995. Topside, the tournament flybridge is arranged with the helm well aft for a good view of the cockpit. Among several engine options, early models with 375hp Cats cruise in the low 20s (about 25 top). Twin 485hp 6-71 Detroits cruise at 25 knots (29 knots top), and optional 550hp 6V92s will run about a knot faster.
