For years Contenders were built on traditional deep-V hulls, but with the 33T company founder Joe Neber chose a stepped-hull design for its increased running efficiency—no small consideration in this era of high fuel prices. The 33s uncluttered, single-level deck layout has enough working space for a half-dozen anglers and their gear. Features include an integral dive platform with ladder, transom livewells (42 and 48 gallons), in-deck fish boxes (4), in-deck rod storage, gunnel rod holders, leaning post with aft facing seat, tackle station, vertical console rod holders, pop-up cleats, K-Plane trim tabs, walk-in console with marine head, cockpit bolsters, fresh/raw-water washdowns, transom door, anchor locker, recessed bow rails, and cockpit lights. Below-deck livewells (aft of the console) were optional. Note that the 33 appears to have a little more freeboard than previous Contenders her size. With 400 gallons of fuel capacity, range is excellent. Like all Contender boats, the fit and finish is exemplary Twin Yamaha 350s reach close to 45 knots top. Triple Yamaha 250s deliver 50+ knots wide open.
