The Contender 28 Tournament is a derivation of the 25 Open, Contenders most popular model for several years. The Tournament shares the same hull as the 28 Sport, each having an integrated transom for increased running surface. Both are considered top-tier boats, but where the Sport is aimed toward the family cruising market with cushioned bow seating, larger console, etc., the Tournament is pretty much what the name suggests a serious fishing boat without unnecessary amenities. Not surprisingly, most Tournaments are special ordered to meet owner specs. Standard features include a self-bailing cockpit, one piece flush deck, raised 50-gallon aft livewell, lockable electronics console, and up to a 240-gallon optional fuel capacity for those long offshore runs. Storage includes a 140-gallon insulated forward fish box, two 76-gallon aft boxes (port & starboard), two forward under-deck rod lockers, and a large center storage locker forward of the console impressive for a 28-foot boat. Several custom T-tops are offered and most used models have rod holders installed everywhere. Yamaha F250s reach a top speed of 50 knots. Twin F300s can exceed 60 knots.
