With a length of nearly 29 feet, the Cobalt 282 was near the top of the bowrider class when she was introduced in 2002. So who buys these big bowriders? People who need more space for friends and family, and people who don’t want their boating activities limited to lakes and bays. Built on a deep-V hull with a 9-foot beam, the 282 can handle an offshore chop with ease while still being trailerable for those with a permit and a heavy-duty tow vehicle. (Note the unusual retro-style tail fins.) Families with young children will appreciate the 282’s deep cockpit and forward seating area. Standard storage is plentiful, and bow doors reduce high-rpm wind blast. Aside from the posh cockpit seating and convenient center transom walk-through, the 282 is loaded with the kind of quality features expected in any Cobalt product. The radar arch doubles as a wakeboard tower; the flip-up helm seat makes standup driving easy; a head/storage compartment is built into the portside console. Fit and finish is nearly flawless. An air compressor (for inflatable water toys) and cockpit wet bar are standard. Expect a top speed of 40+ knots with a single 375hp MerCruiser Bravo III sterndrive.
