The introduction of the Crowne series in 1991 was an effort by Chris Craft to resurrect the company’s declining family cruiser sales. A distinctive boat with high freeboard, the 30 Crowne (note that she was called the 272 Crowne in 1991–92, the 282 Crowne in 1993–94, and the 30 Crowne from 1995–97) owes her graceful appearance to a molded bow pulpit, a curved wraparound windshield, circular foredeck hatches, and an integrated swim platform. Below deck, the companionway stairs are a series of welded steps that create a more open look than the usual molded stairs. The midcabin accommodations will sleep four, and the elevated foredeck provides good headroom in the Crowne’s main cabin. The U-shaped cockpit lounge can seat six, and the stylish helm console is a real eye-catcher. A wet bar was standard, and fender racks are built into the swim platform. Additional features include a foldaway helm seat, walk-through windshield, and radar arch. Twin 5.7L sterndrives cruise the 30 Crowne at 17 knots (33–34 knots top), and optional 7.4L engines cruise at 20 knots and top out around 40 knots.
