The CHB 45 (CHB stands for Chung Hwa Boatworks) enjoyed a good deal of popularity among trawler enthusiasts during her early 1980s production years thanks largely to a seakindly Monk-designed semi-displacement hull, an affordable price, and comfortable cruising accommodations. Note that there were two CHB 45 models: the Sedan pictured here with its amidships master stateroom and single head compartment, and the Pilothouse model with the master stateroom forward, two heads, and a smaller cockpit. Both came with full teak interiors including built-in furnishings and parquet cabin soles. While the CHB 45 isn’t an unusually beamy boat by today’s widebody standards, the interior accommodations are well arranged with the galley forward in the salon and easy deck access from the lower helm positions. The side decks of the Sedan are weather-protected by a bridge overhang, and the decks of both models are wide enough for easy passage around the house. Standard 120hp Lehman diesels cruise efficiently at 8–9 knots, and optional 235hp Volvos cruise at 12–13 knots.
