Chung Hwa—which is no longer in business—is generally regarded as one of the more experienced Taiwan builders with a string of successful models sold into the U.S. market. The CHB 42 (also known as the Present 42 or the Ponderosa 42 Sundeck) was a sundeck design with a trawler-style profile, a solid fiberglass, semi-displacement hull with a long keel, and of course the obligatory full teak interior typical of most Asian imports of her day. Aside from the traditional interior woodwork and practical two-stateroom dinette layout, the CHB 42 features a fairly large salon separated from the galley with a convenient breakfast bar. A lower station was standard along with a sliding deck access door, and the aft head contains the only stall shower. CHB offered a range of diesel options for the 42 Sundeck, but most came with twin 135hp or 225hp Lehmans or twin 165hp or 225hp Perkins. Economical to operate, the larger engine options will provide cruising speeds in the 12–14 knot range, while the less powerful Lehmans cruise comfortably at 7–8 knots. At hull speed the cruising range can exceed 500 nautical miles.
