Innovation, an often overused term in the boating industry, was clearly on display with the introduction in 2012 of the Chaparral 327 SSX (called the 337 SSX beginning in 2016), a big open-bow sportboat that stretched the boundaries of bowrider size and luxury. The 327 wasnt just big; her sleek styling drew admiring glances across the board, and a deep-V hull with relatively high freeboard gave this Chaparral the muscle to run offshore where most smaller bowriders fear to venture. Beneath the sleek exterior lies an air conditioned full-beam cabin with an enclosed head, galley, and a slide-out sofa that converts into a berth. The stylish hardtop which is standard shields the helm and companion seats as well as the forward end of the L-shaped cockpit lounge. The center section of the lounge and the aft-facing seat behind it convert to a sun lounge. A wet bar behind the helm seat is optional, as is a gas grill on the swim platform. Note the power engine compartment hatch and power aft seat. Among several engine options, twin 430hp MerCruiser 8.2 I/Os cruise at 30 knots and reach close to 50 knots wide open.
