The Carver 390 Cockpit Motor Yacht (called the 400 Cockpit MY in 1996–98 and the 404 Cockpit MY in 1999–2003) is basically a Carver 355/356 Motor Yacht with a cockpit. Hull construction is solid fiberglass, and the galley-down interior is tastefully finished with teak or cherry wood accents, Corian counters, and Ultraleather seating. Wraparound windows provide plenty of natural lighting in the salon which came with a convertible sofa to port, barrel chair and entertainment center opposite, and mid-level dinette forward. The galley features a full-size refrigerator, coffee maker, and microwave. The aft stateroom has a tapered queen berth, built-in TV, and private head with separate stall shower. An offset double berth is in forward stateroom with private access to the day head. A lower helm was optional for northern boaters. The cockpit, with in-deck storage lazarette and transom door, can be accessed through a sliding glass door in the master stateroom or a ladder from the aft deck. A bow pulpit, aft deck wet bar, hardtop, and swim platform were standard. Among several engine options, Volvo 310hp gas inboards cruise at 16–18 knots. Cummins 330hp diesels cruise at 20–22 knots.
