The 30 Flybridge may not have been the best-selling of Cape Dorys powerboat fleet, but she certainly ranks among better small convertibles her size ever brought to market. Seakindly, capable and comfortable, the Cape Dory 30 rides on a hard-chine modified-V hullnot a semi-displacement design usually associated with New England-style boatswith a wide 12-foot beam, full-length keel, and balsa-cored hullsides. Her well-finished interior boasts a roomy pilothouse/salon area with convertible dinette to port and storage cabinets (or optional lower helm) to starboard. The small L-shaped galley features a 2-burner stove, refrigerator, and dish storage. Note the teak-and-holly cabin sole and ash ceiling running throughout the boat. The engine room, reached from hatches in the salon sole, is big for a 30-footer. Additional features large (opening) cabin windows, teak covering boards in the cockpit, double-entry head compartment, teak bow pulpit, and wide side decks. Nearly all Cape Dory 30s were sold with optional 200hp Volvo diesels (18 knots cruise/low 20s top). Note that the molds were acquired by Nauset Marine in 1994 and production continued on a semicustom basis.
