Still a good-looking small cruiser in spite of her age, the 35 Convertible was introduced during the time of Wellcrafts ownership of Californian Yachts in the mid 1980s. A sporty profile and unique window treatment give the 35 a distinctive look making hers an easy boat to spot in a crowd. Built on the same hull used for the Californian 35 Motor Yacht with a flared bow and shallow keel, the 12'4"" beam is relatively wide for a 35-footer. Equally at home as a family cruiser or weekend fisherman, the interior of the Californian 35 is very open and airy (thanks in part to her wraparound salon windows) and the grain-matched teak cabinetry is impressively finished. Berths for four are provided, and a separate stall shower is fitted in the head compartment. On deck, the small cockpit can support some light-tackle fishing although the step along the cabin bulkhead prevents the installation of a tackle center. Molded cockpit steps lead to wide side decks making foredeck access easy and secure. Gas engines were standard, but 210hp Cat diesels proved a popular option. At a 16-knot cruising speed, the Cats burn just 15 gphbetter than a mile per gallon.
