Still a handsome yacht in spite of the years, the Viking 38 Convertible was the smallest model in the Viking fleet during the early 1990s. She was an expensive boat with the same finish and attention to detail seen in Viking’s larger yachts. The 38 was built on a modified-V hull with cored hullsides, a solid fiberglass bottom, and better than 14 feet of beam—wide indeed for a boat this size. Below deck, the expansive interior of the Viking 38, with its rich teak paneling and upscale fabrics, was available in two floorplan configurations. Both the dinette and two-stateroom layouts retain the convenient mid-level galley and double entry head. In the dinette arrangement, the salon dimensions seem huge for a 38-footer. The cockpit has over 100 square feet of space and comes with an in-deck fish box, transom door, and molded tackle centers. Topside, the spacious flybridge will seat a small crowd. Additional features include a bow pulpit, a well-finished engine room, and an 8 KW genset. Big-block Crusader gas engines were standard until 1992 when they were replaced with 485hp Detroit 6-71 diesels. The Viking 38 Convertible will cruise at 22 knots and reach 25 knots wide open.
