If the Blackfin 31 Combi has a different look than previous Combi models, it’s because she’s a remake of the earlier North Coast 31 (1988–90), a highly regarded deep-V fisherman from Massachusetts. In developing the 31 Combi, Blackfin engineers replaced the original North Coast floorplan with a new dinette layout that is more open and suitable for family cruising. Lounge seating was also added opposite the helm. The result is a family-friendly offshore fisherman with civilized, almost upscale, cruising accommodations—a rarity in a serious fishboat. In 1995 Blackfin revised the layout with a larger head compartment, a portside dinette, and a convertible dinette forward. Additional features of the 31 Combi include unusually wide side decks, hydraulically operated engine room hatch, a well-designed helm console, cockpit storage boxes, and a transom door. An excellent sea boat with a notably sharp entry, standard 320hp gas engines cruise the 31 Combi at 20–21 knots and reach about 30 knots top. Optional 300hp Cat diesels cruise at 25–26 knots and reach a top speed of approximately 30 knots.
