Just two years in production, the Bertram 36 combines the offshore capabilities of a deep-V hull with an interior designed for comfortable family cruising. She’s built on a relatively beamy hull for her length with reverse chines, a solid fiberglass bottom, and cored hullsides. Most convertibles this size are designed with a single-stateroom, galley-down floorplan that allows for a more spacious and open salon. The Bertram 36, however, came with a two-stateroom, galley-up teak interior. The result is a fairly compact salon, but what really makes this an unusual layout is the addition of a unique “half dinette” aft of the galley—an arrangement dictated by the engine boxes that extend into the cabin. With nearly 100 square feet of space, the cockpit of the Bertram 36 is one of the largest in her class. Both engine boxes are cushioned, and the consoles above them contain a tackle center and optional freezer or livewell. There’s also an in-sole fish box, a transom fish box, and a transom door. Topside, the helm console of the Bertram 36 is huge with room for flush-mounting an array of electronics. Engine access is very good. Cummins 450hp diesels cruise at 24–26 knots (about 30 knots top).
