Bertram rarely misfired during the 1980s when it came to new model introductions, so it was notable when one of their designs failed to catch on with the public. Such was the case with the Bertram 30 Flybridge Cruiser, the boat Bertram designed as a replacement for the classic Bertram 31. (For the record, no boat will ever equal the popularity of the Bertram 31, a true industry classic if there ever was one.) She’s exactly the same length as the Bertram 31 but with slightly smaller cockpit dimensions, less transom deadrise (18.5° vs. 23°), improved trolling stability and a notably drier ride. The improvements carried into the interior as well where the Bertram 30’s stylish oak-paneled accommodations provide luxuries undreamed of in the old Bertram 31. Note that the engine boxes in the cockpit provide convenient seating. Lasting only two years in production, the Bertram 30 Flybridge Cruiser proved too expensive for the market and she was unceremoniously withdrawn from the Bertram lineup in 1985. She’ll cruise at 20–22 knots with standard MerCruiser 340hp gas engines, (about 30 knots top). Note that the Bertram 30 Express Cruiser (1984–85) is the same boat without the flybridge.
